GIA … Industry’s Voice at the General Assembly
GIA maintains a presence at the State Capitol throughout the legislative session, and its staff and lobbyist monitor and support legislation of interest to its members year-round. GIA’s lobbyist, Mark Middleton is also available to talk with members regarding issues of interest and provides members a weekly electronic Legislative Briefing report covering legislation of interest filed as well as a status report of that “in the pipeline.”
GIA encourages members and industry supporters to familiarize themselves with the draft Statewide Comprehensive Water Management Plan just issued by Georgia’s Environmental Protection Department (EPD).
GIA lobbyist Mark Middleton reports: “This proposal raises a number of concerns for industry in terms of water cost, restrictions, and supply. This will undoubtedly be one of the largest issues of the 2008 General Assembly. In my initial reading, I am particularly concerned about the restriction of creating reservoirs, inter-basis transfers, and the requirements regarding conservation. I am sure there are other industry specific issues.”
GIA will continue to review the document to identify areas of concerns. To read the proposed plan, go to
